Sujit Choudhry Participates in Ukraine`s Constitutional Reforms

Ukraine`s Constitutional Reforms

Sujit Choudhry is the director of the Center for Constitution Transitions. He joined the team of constitution experts on July 10th 2017. The team of professionals met and discussed matters pertaining semi-presidential systems and the constitutional challenges that were faced by the government of Ukraine. Several groups that attended the meeting included the International Institute for Democracy and Electorate Assistance, the Center of Policy and Legal Reforms and other intergovernmental organizations.

Sujit Choudhry said that Ukraine had not achieved its democracy. He went ahead to list some of the factors that caused instability. Weak political parties, poor parliamentary electoral system and unequal distribution of presidential powers affected the stability of the country. Sujit Choudhry was happy to discuss such matters with prominent people who had sufficient knowledge of the constitution.

According to Sujit Choudry, the country recently used transitional democracies in its constitution-making process. He stated that the constitution is a top priority for most scholars and leaders. These people should, therefore, discuss and collect policy-based methods to support constitutional reforms.

Center of Constitution Transition`s main agenda is mobilizing and generating information to support constitutional reforms. Its objectives are achieved by assembling and guiding experts who come up with evidence-based policies. Centre of Constitution Transition has been collaborating with multilateral organizations and NGOs. The organization facilitates workshops, conferences, recruitment of workers, conceptualization platforms and research processes.
