Chris Burch Takes Luxury to a New Level With Nihi Resort

The five-star resort on Sumba island was a joint effort with hotelier James McBride who partnered with Chris Burch. The grand opening was in 2015 and the accolades have poured in ever since. Read more about the resort on wingsjournal.com

Burch related that he hoped to preserve something beautiful in this stunning tropical location. He also had his kids in mind with the project and also hopes it to be a great attribute for the local community. A way to give back so to speak. He commented that the incredible natural beauty of the island lent itself well to creative ideas for the hotel. One great example is building a spa under a waterfall.

The pictures of the resort are absolutely stunning in their appearance. Vivid ocean colors compete with gorgeous sunsets and the lush, natural vegetation. Nihi is home to 27 private villas; Raja Mendaka is the private residence of Burch and can even be rented out. $14,000 per night will get you an extraordinary luxury experience. The villas feature their own private plunge pools with breathtaking views.

The Nihi resort has become a blessing to local residents. They are the largest employer on the island and they also contribute some of the earnings to the Sumba Foundation. This organization helps fund projects that advance the local community. The economic development that hotel Nihi has stirred up bodes well for the remote island.

The resort also features a large indoor-outdoor entertainment center. It’s an attractive wood building set among a brilliant, blue sky and palm trees. Interestingly, there are two luxury tree houses on the resort. The resort is decorated with traditional local artwork pieces and the island is a surfer’s haven as well.
